Berczy Glen is under construction in north Markham. With a closing date ahead, you can choose materials before you have access to measure finished window openings. We make shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Allow for transit after that, and decide which rooms need coverings first if you plan to order in stages.
What is Berczy Glen, and how far along is construction?
Berczy Glen is a collection of subdivisions in north Markham. It occupies the block bounded by Elgin Mills Road East, Warden Avenue, the Hydro Corridor and Jennings Gate Estates. Mattamy Homes, DG Group and Treasure Hill Homes are building it.
The community includes Mattamy’s Springwater, DG Group’s Berczy Elgin and Treasure Hill’s Warden. Construction is under way, with 3077 units in total.
What can I put on a tall window over the stairs or front door?
For a tall window in a new house, we make shades up to 130 inches high and from 9 to 109 inches wide. Our chain-operated shades have a continuous-loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose the side; we set the drop length. Think about where you would stand to reach it. If you cannot reach the chain comfortably, a motor is the practical answer. Motorization adds $115.00. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.
Choose the mount before measuring. Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure width at the top, middle and bottom and use the narrowest. Measure height to the sill at the left, middle and right and use the longest. Do not subtract anything; we make the deduction. Check for at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame. With less depth, use an outside mount. For that mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Should I order blinds for the whole house or start with a few rooms?
There is no minimum order. One shade is fine, so bedrooms and street-facing rooms can go first. The remake guarantee applies to website orders of three shades or more and covers one blind per customer. It does not apply to trade accounts. An installation visit starts at three windows. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what you ordered.
For a new house, take final measurements once the window openings and surrounding finishes are complete and accessible. Measure every window you plan to cover with the same tape. Do not copy measurements from another opening. You can order free material samples on the website while waiting for access. Which materials should I choose for bedroom shades?
Our room-darkening zebra materials are 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30. Shangri-La material 35 is also room-darkening. These are the dark materials. Room-darkening does not mean shutting out all light. Free samples let you look at the material before confirming a custom order.
Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. We make them in materials 33 and 35. They have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online.
How do zebra shades work on windows facing the street?
Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy. Offset them for filtered daylight. For a street-facing room in a new house, that gives you an adjustment you can make as your needs change through the day.
Choose the chain side when you order. Think about where furniture will go and where you will stand to operate the shade. If you prefer a single panel of fabric without bands, we also make roller blinds.
What should I budget for blinds at real window sizes?
For a chain-operated zebra shade, a bedroom-window example at 36 by 48 inches is $199.80. A kitchen-window example at 48 by 48 inches is $249.40. A living-room example at 48 by 60 inches is $299.00. A wide-front-window example at 72 by 60 inches is $423.00. All four together come to $1,171.20. These are common-window examples. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for.
As a roller blind, 36 by 48 inches is $139.20. As a motorized zebra shade, 72 by 60 inches is $538.00, with the remote extra, once. These prices include shipping in Canada and are before tax. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order.
Do you install blinds in Berczy Glen?
Berczy Glen is roughly 10 km from our workshop in a straight line. It is inside our installation area of 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more, installation is 20% off. Neighbours on one street who book together are counted as one order for that rate.
The mechanical parts of a shade our own team installs have lifetime cover. That covers the roller, chain, brackets and motor. Fabric is excluded from the cover.
