Canterbury Lanes is a community of three bedroom homes in King City, King, being built by Camcos Living. People are moving in now. The move-in ready offering includes eight homes, each with a 30 to 90 day closing.
How do I cover a tall window over the stairs or front door?
We make shades up to 130 inches high, in widths from 9 to 109 inches. A tall window over stairs or a front door needs some thought about how you will operate it. Picture where you will stand to raise and lower the shade, and whether you can comfortably reach the chain from there.
Our chain-operated shades use a continuous-loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on. We set its drop length to suit the measured window. If reaching the chain would mean leaning over stairs or fetching something to stand on, a motor is the practical answer. Any shade can be motorized, and a motorized shade has no chain. One remote runs up to 15 shades.
Should I order blinds for the whole house or start with a few rooms?
There is no minimum order. One shade is fine. If a new house has every window bare, you can start with bedrooms and street-facing rooms. Think about where you need privacy when you get dressed, settle down for the evening or turn on the lights. Other rooms can wait until you have decided how you use them.
The order size does change the remake guarantee and installation arrangements. The remake guarantee covers one blind per customer and applies to website orders of three shades or more. It does not apply to trade accounts. An installation visit has a minimum of three windows. Custom shades are not returnable once the order is confirmed, so check your measurements and material choice before confirming.
Which shades should I choose for bedrooms?
For room-darkening zebra shades, choose from materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30. Material 35 is the room-darkening option for Shangri-La shades. Room-darkening does not shut out all light. You can order free material samples on the website before buying, so you can look at the fabric in the room where it will hang.
Zebra shades have alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Choose the type you want to operate each day as well as the material.
Should new windows have an inside mount or an outside mount?
Decide on the mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening for a clean, built-in look. It needs at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame for the cassette. If you have less depth, choose an outside mount. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. That overlap hides an out-of-square frame and blocks more light. Allow at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening’s width at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, and use the longest height. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything. We make the deduction ourselves. Measure every window rather than carrying one window’s measurements over to another.
What will blinds cost for a new house?
The house total depends on the measurements of every window and the shades you choose. These are example sizes for common windows, rather than measurements from Canterbury Lanes. A chain-operated zebra shade at 24 by 36 inches, a bathroom window example, is $125.40. At 30 by 48 inches, a bedroom window example, it is $175.00. A 36 by 48 inches bedroom shade is $199.80. A 36 by 60 inches bedroom shade is $237.00. Those four sizes together come to $737.20.
For comparison, a roller blind at 24 by 36 inches is $86.10. A motorized zebra shade at 36 by 60 inches is $352.00, with one remote at $50.00 extra, once. These prices include shipping in Canada and are before tax. GST or HST is charged according to the delivery province. Yes. Canterbury Lanes is roughly 10 km from our workshop in a straight line, inside our installation area. We install within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more windows, installation is 20% off.
You can book a measure and installation rather than handle the fitting yourself. Our workshop is an assembly shop, so it is not a place to visit for a showroom display. Free material samples can be ordered on the website while you decide what to use.
