Blinds for UnionCity in Markham before your closing date

If your closing date at UnionCity in Markham is still ahead, start with material samples, management’s requirements and a window budget. Final measurements need access to finished openings. We make shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order, with transit on top. Plan for that making time, delivery and installation when working towards your moving date.

What is UnionCity, and how far along is construction?

UnionCity is a condominium development under construction by Metropia in Markham Centre, Markham. It has three towers of 36, 40 and 44 storeys on the north side of Enterprise Boulevard. Together, the towers will contain 1,360 condominium units.

The 36-storey tower has topped off at its mechanical penthouse. The other two towers are still rising.

What should I ask management before choosing blinds?

Ask the management office about requirements for how window coverings look from outside. Many buildings have a rule about this, so check before choosing a colour. You can order free material samples on our website while you wait for access. Take final measurements once you can reach the finished window openings. A closing date alone does not provide the measurements we need to make your shades.

Decide between an inside mount and an outside mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. If you have less, choose an outside mount. It fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it, hiding an out-of-square frame and blocking more light. For an outside mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.

Should a balcony door have one wide shade or two?

A balcony door is usually the widest opening in a flat. Consider one wide shade or two side by side. Check where the handle lands before deciding on the mounting position. Leave room to use it without catching the fabric or chain. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with a charge of $85 once per order.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest width. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, and use the longest height. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything. We make the deduction. Measure every window in one pass with the same tape.

Which materials should I choose for a bedroom?

Our room-darkening zebra materials are 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30. Material 35 is also room-darkening and is a Shangri-La shade. Room-darkening does not mean shutting out all light. Free samples let you look at the materials before choosing a number.

Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed and then rolls the shade up. They have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online. You can also motorize any shade if you want operation without a chain.

When is a roller blind a better choice than a zebra shade?

A roller blind is one plain panel of fabric with no bands. It is a good choice when you prefer that plain appearance or want a lower price at the same size. A roller blind at 24 by 72 inches is $139.20. A zebra shade at 24 by 72 inches is $199.80. These prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada.

Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. We make roller blinds in materials 20, 21, 22 and 31. Order samples to compare the fabrics before settling on the style.

What should I budget for made-to-measure blinds?

For chain-operated zebra shades, a narrow full-height pane at 24 by 72 inches is $199.80; a bedroom window at 30 by 60 inches is $206.00; a balcony door at 60 by 80 inches is $464.33; and a wide living room window at 60 by 84 inches is $485.00. All four together come to $1,355.13 before tax, with shipping in Canada included. These are common example sizes. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for.

Motorization adds $115.00 to any shade. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. A motorized zebra shade at 60 by 84 inches is $600.00, with the remote extra, once. A motorized shade has no chain. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum order. Custom shades are final sale once confirmed, except when they arrive faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.

Can ShadeForge install blinds for a UnionCity buyer?

UnionCity is roughly 10 km from our Richmond Hill workshop in a straight line. It is inside our installation area of 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows for a visit.

Our chain-operated shades use a shrouded continuous-loop chain anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose the chain side, and our workshop sets its drop length. When our own team installs, the mechanical parts have lifetime coverage: the roller, chain, brackets and motor. Fabric is excluded.

Where the facts come from. What this page says about UnionCity comes from urbantoronto.ca, which we read on 6 October 2026. ShadeForge makes and fits window shades. We are an independent business with no connection with Metropia or with UnionCity, and the photographs on this page are of other homes we have fitted.
