What is Craft Residences, and how far along is it?
Craft Residences is a 9-storey mid-rise condominium by Gairloch Developments and Tenblock in West Toronto. It is on Dundas Street West between Gilmour and Quebec avenues in the Junction. It will deliver 87 condominium units.
Construction began in February 2025, and the building was near topping off in January 2026. It remains under construction.
Can I see the materials before ordering blinds?
You can order free material samples from our website before buying. A colour on a screen is a poor guide to how fabric will look in a room. Compare the samples in person, and look at them in the room when you have access. Keep the material number with your notes so you can find the same fabric when you order.
We make zebra shades, roller blinds and Shangri-La shades. Our materials are identified by the numbers we cut them by. The workshop in Richmond Hill is an assembly shop, not a showroom, so order samples through the website before making your choice.
When can I measure, and what will the brackets fix into?
Take final measurements when the finished window opening is accessible. Check what the window head is made of before deciding how to mount the shade. In a condo building it is often concrete, which needs a masonry bit and the right plug. Leave the fixing to an installer if you are unsure what you are drilling into or how to secure the brackets.
Choose the mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. With less depth, use an outside mount. It overlaps the opening: add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above. Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and use the narrowest. Measure the height to the sill at the left, middle and right and use the longest. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything. We make the deduction. Measure every window with the same tape.
What blinds suit floor to ceiling glass?
A zebra shade has alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy and offset them for filtered daylight. A tall pane can have both settings with one shade, without needing a blind and a curtain. Our shades can be made from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high.
A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. Chain-operated shades have a shrouded continuous-loop chain anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose the chain side, and our workshop sets the drop length. A motorized shade has no chain.
Should I ask management before choosing a colour?
Ask the management office before settling on a material. Many buildings set rules about how window coverings look from outside. Check the requirement before confirming your order, then compare your samples with it.
Keep your chosen material number with the measurements for each room. If you want room-darkening fabric, zebra materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30 and Shangri-La material 35 carry that description in the dark colours.
What should I budget for made-to-measure blinds?
For chain-operated zebra shades, a narrow full-height pane at 24 by 72 inches is $199.80. A bedroom window at 30 by 60 inches is $206.00. A balcony door at 60 by 80 inches is $464.33. A wide living room window at 60 by 84 inches is $485.00. All four together come to $1,355.13. These are common window examples. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. A roller blind at 24 by 72 inches is $139.20.
IllustrationMotorization adds $115.00 to any shade. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. Prices are before tax, with shipping in Canada included. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum shade order. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.
Can ShadeForge come and install my blinds?
Craft Residences is roughly 25 km from our workshop in a straight line. It is inside our installation area, which extends 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows for a visit.
