What is Duncan Hill Homes, and is it still under construction?

Duncan Hill Homes is an infill community at 16th Avenue between Bayview Avenue and Yonge Street in Richmond Hill. Arkfield Development is building 9 detached and 20 semi-detached homes. Construction is under way.

The community is a few kilometres from our workshop in Richmond Hill. It is within the 75 km area where we install.

Can I see samples before choosing blinds for a new house?

You can order free material samples on our website before buying. A colour on a screen is a poor guide to how fabric will look beside your walls and windows. Hold the samples in the room and look at them at different times of day. We identify each material by number, so keep that number with your room notes.

Choose how you want the shade to work, too. Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. Shangri-La materials 33 and 35 have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online.

Should I order the whole house at once or start with a few windows?

There is no minimum order. One shade is fine. You can start with bedrooms and street-facing rooms, then order for other rooms later. For room-darkening, choose from materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13, 30 and 35.

Order size changes the remake guarantee and installation arrangements. The remake guarantee covers one blind per customer on website orders of three shades or more and excludes trade accounts. An installation visit has a minimum of three windows. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not cover a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.

Can neighbours book their blind installation together?

One installation visit can cover more than one house. Homes that book together, including neighbours on one street, are counted as one order for the installation discount. At seven or more windows, installation is 20% off.

If you plan to book with neighbours, discuss it before placing separate installation bookings. Keep each house’s window measurements and material choices clearly identified. Choose the chain side for each chain-operated shade when ordering.

When can I measure a tall stairwell or front-door window?

For a new house, take final measurements when the window openings and surrounding finishes are complete and accessible. Decide on the mount first. An inside mount needs at least 2 inches of flat depth. For an outside mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above. Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening’s width at the top, middle and bottom and use the narrowest. Measure height to the sill at the left, middle and right and use the longest. Send the exact opening measurements. We make the deduction.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

We make shades up to 130 inches high. Consider how you will reach the chain before ordering for a tall window. The continuous-loop chain is sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose the side; our workshop sets the drop length. If reaching the chain would be awkward, choose a motor. Motorization adds $115.00 per shade and removes the chain entirely. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.

What should I budget for blinds at common window sizes?

These are common-window examples. Each shade is priced from the measurements of the window it will cover. For chain-operated zebra shades, a tall window beside a door at 30 by 72 inches is $237.00. A tall stairwell example at 36 by 84 inches is $311.40. A front-window example at 60 by 60 inches is $361.00. A patio-door example at 72 by 80 inches is $547.00. All four together come to $1,456.40.

Will you install, and how does making time fit my moving date?

Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three. At seven or more windows, installation is 20% off. Homes that book together count as one order for that discount.
