Skylands Richmond Hill blinds for your move-in

Start with bedrooms and street-facing rooms if your new house has bare windows throughout. We make shades to your measurements in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order, with transit on top. Skylands is within our installation area. You can order one shade to begin, or price every window before deciding how much to do this month.

What is Skylands and when are people moving in?

Skylands is a community of three and four bedroom townhomes at Leslie Street and 19th Avenue in Richmond Hill, being built by Times Group. Homes in the first phase are available for move-in now, and move-ins for Phase Two begin in 2028. The community is a few kilometres from our Richmond Hill workshop, within the 75 km area where we install.

Which blinds should I choose for street-facing windows?

For a street-facing room, a zebra shade gives you a way to change between privacy and filtered light. It has alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the solid bands up for privacy. Offset them for filtered daylight. If you are deciding which bare windows to cover first, put the rooms where you want privacy near the top of your order.

The chain raises and lowers the shade and changes the alignment of the bands. It is a continuous loop, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on when you order. Our workshop sets its drop length to suit the measured window. A motorized shade has no chain.

Do I need to order blinds for the whole house at once?

There is no minimum order. One shade is fine, so you can start with bedrooms and street-facing rooms, then order for the remaining windows later. If you want to plan the whole house before buying, measure every window in one pass with the same tape. Keep each window’s measurements separate so you can price the shades individually.

Some order conditions begin at three. Our remake guarantee covers one blind per customer and applies to website orders of three shades or more. It does not apply to trade accounts. An installation visit has a minimum of three windows. Custom shades are not returnable once the order is confirmed, so check the measurements and your material choice before confirming. You can order free material samples on the website first.

What works for a small kitchen or bathroom window?

We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch. For a small opening, check the measured width against that 9 inches minimum. A roller blind is a plain panel of fabric with no bands. It is the lower-priced choice in this example: a 30 by 72 inches roller blind is $165.75 before tax, with shipping in Canada included. Roller materials are 20, 21, 22 and 31.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

Choose the mount before measuring. An inside mount needs at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame. Measure width first at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest. Measure height at the left, middle and right, down to the sill, and use the longest. Measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything; we make the deduction. For an outside mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.

Which materials should I look at for bedrooms?

If room-darkening is your priority, look at zebra materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30, and Shangri-La material 35. These are the dark room-darkening materials. Room-darkening does not mean shutting out all light. Order free samples before choosing so you can look at the material in the room where you plan to use it.

Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. We make them in materials 33 and 35. They have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online. You can motorize any shade if you prefer operation without a chain.

How much do blinds cost for a new house?

These are example sizes for common windows. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it will cover. A chain-operated zebra shade at 30 by 72 inches, for a tall window beside a door, is $237.00. At 36 by 84 inches, for a tall stairwell window, it is $311.40. At 60 by 60 inches, for a front window, it is $361.00. At 72 by 80 inches, for a patio door, it is $547.00. Together, the 30 by 72 inches, 36 by 84 inches, 60 by 60 inches and 72 by 80 inches examples come to $1,456.40.

Those prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada. The 72 by 80 inches zebra shade with a motor instead of a chain is $662.00, with a $50.00 remote extra, once. One remote runs up to 15 shades. GST or HST is charged according to the delivery province. To work out your house total, price each window at its measured size.
