Blinds for The Towns on Bayview in Richmond Hill

Moving into The Towns on Bayview this month can mean tackling bare windows throughout a new house. Start with bedrooms and bathrooms for privacy, then the rooms you use most and the patio door. We make shades to measure in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order, with transit on top. The community is within our 75 km installation area, so we can come and hang them.

What is The Towns on Bayview, and are people moving in?

The Towns on Bayview is a limited collection of townhomes at Bayview Avenue and 19th Avenue in Richmond Hill, built by Primont Homes. The builder describes them as move-in-ready, with three and four bedroom layouts and inventory homes available now. People are moving in, and the community is a few kilometres from our Richmond Hill workshop.

When should I measure the windows in a new house?

Measure after the trim and paint are finished. A measurement taken from the builder’s drawing cannot replace measuring the opening. Choose the mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. For an outside mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom, then use the narrowest width. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, then use the longest height. Do not subtract anything for an inside mount; we make the deduction ourselves. Measure every window in the same pass with the same tape, even when the openings look alike.

Should I choose one wide shade or two for a patio door?

Think about how you walk through a patio door before choosing the covering. With one wide shade, you raise the whole shade to pass through. Separate shades let you raise the covering over the part you use while leaving the other down. Check how the door opens and where the shades would mount before choosing.

We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton. The courier charge is $85 once per order.

What does it cost to motorize a floor of windows?

Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. Count the shades you want to operate from the remote when planning a floor of windows. A motorized shade has no chain at all.

A chain-operated shade has a continuous-loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on when ordering. Our workshop sets the drop length. Think about where furniture will stand and which side you can reach comfortably before choosing the chain side.

Can I see the material before I order?

You can order free material samples on our website before buying. A colour on a screen is a poor guide to how a material will look in your room. Hold the sample beside the finishes you have chosen and near the window you want to cover. We identify materials by the numbers we cut them by.

Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades in materials 33 and 35 have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. They have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online.

What would shades for a new house cost?

These common window sizes give you a starting point for planning a budget. They are examples, and every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. As chain-operated zebra shades, a small bedroom window at 24 by 48 inches is $150.20. A tall window beside the door at 30 by 72 inches is $237.00. A tall stairwell window at 36 by 84 inches is $311.40. A patio door at 72 by 80 inches is $547.00. All four together come to $1,245.60.

For comparison, a roller blind at 24 by 48 inches is $103.80. A motorized zebra shade at 72 by 80 inches is $662.00, with the remote extra, once. These prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum order, so one shade is fine if you want to start with the room where privacy matters most. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That never covers a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.

Will ShadeForge come and install the blinds?

Yes. The Towns on Bayview is a few kilometres from our workshop and within our installation area. We install within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more windows, the installation charge is 20% lower. Neighbours in one building or on one street who book together are counted as one order for that rate.

We make shades to order in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Transit is on top. The mechanical parts of a shade our own team installs have lifetime warranty coverage. That covers the roller, chain, brackets and motor. Fabric is excluded. Our workshop is an assembly shop, so order material samples through the website before buying.
