What is Sugar Wharf, and are people moving in now?

Sugar Wharf is an 11.5-acre master-planned community on Queens Quay in Downtown Toronto, developed by Menkes. Its first phase combines 2 residential towers, retail, office space and parkland. People are moving in now, with finished, move-in-ready suites available.

Should a balcony door have one wide shade or two?

A balcony door is usually the widest opening in a flat. One wide shade can cover the opening, or you can divide it between two shades side by side. Think about which part of the door you use and where the handle lands in relation to the shade. Our shades are available from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, $85 once per order.

Decide on the mounting position before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. If there is less depth, choose an outside mount. An outside mount overlaps the opening: add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above. Check the handle against the position you have chosen before ordering.

What blinds suit floor to ceiling condo glass?

A zebra shade alternates sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered daylight. That gives a tall condo pane both settings without needing a blind and a curtain for those jobs. A roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up.

For chain operation, we supply a continuous loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side it hangs on, and our workshop sets its drop length. Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.

Which materials offer room-darkening for a bedroom?

Our room-darkening zebra materials are 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30. Material 35 is the room-darkening option for Shangri-La shades. These are the dark materials, identified by the numbers our workshop cuts them by. Room-darkening does not mean shutting out all light.

Order free material samples on our website before choosing. You can look at them in the room where the shade will hang, then use the material number when ordering. For a condo bedroom window, choose the construction and material together: zebra shades use bands, while Shangri-La shades use tilting fabric vanes between sheer layers.

Should I ask management before choosing a colour?

Ask the management office about window-covering requirements before choosing a colour. Many buildings have rules about how windows look from outside. Check what applies before settling on a material or confirming an order.

Free samples let you compare the materials in person before buying. Keep the material numbers with your choices so you can enter the right one on the website. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.

What do made-to-measure blinds cost at real window sizes?

For a chain-operated zebra shade, a narrow full-height pane at 24 by 72 inches costs $199.80. A bedroom-window example at 30 by 60 inches costs $206.00. A balcony-door example at 60 by 80 inches costs $464.33. A wide living-room-window example at 60 by 84 inches costs $485.00. All four together come to $1,355.13. As a roller blind, 24 by 72 inches costs $139.20. As a motorized zebra shade, 60 by 84 inches costs $600.00, with the remote extra, once.

These are common-window examples. Each shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. The prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum order, so one shade is fine. We make orders in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of confirmation; transit is additional. The website accepts Interac e-Transfer.

Does ShadeForge install blinds at Sugar Wharf?

Yes. Sugar Wharf is roughly 25 km from our workshop in a straight line. It is inside our installation area of 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows for a visit.

When our own team installs a shade, its mechanical parts have lifetime warranty coverage. Those parts are the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The fabric is excluded. Our Richmond Hill workshop is an assembly shop, so use the website to order free samples before choosing your materials.

What to do next

Price a window on our website using its measurements and your chosen material. If you are measuring, record width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, give us the exact opening without subtracting anything; we make the deduction ourselves.

Where the facts come from. What this page says about Sugar Wharf comes from menkes.com, which we read on 6 October 2026. ShadeForge makes and fits window shades. We are an independent business with no connection with Menkes or with Sugar Wharf, and the photographs on this page are of other homes we have fitted. The picture marked Illustration was made by computer to show the kind of window: it is not a picture of Sugar Wharf, and not a photograph of our work.
