Blinds for Highland Commons in Toronto

If your closing date at Highland Commons is still ahead, start with material samples and a budget for your windows. Final measurements need the finished opening and mounting space. We make shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order, with transit on top. Highland Commons is within our installation area, so you can plan for fitting as well as delivery.

What is Highland Commons, and how far along is it?

Highland Commons is under construction by Altree Developments at Military Trail and Kingston Road in Port Union, eastern Scarborough, Toronto. It consists of two eight-storey condominium buildings and will contain 539 condominium units.

Both buildings appeared substantially complete in an update dated August 31, 2026, as the developer was wrapping up the project.

How does the chain work on a condo shade?

Our chain-operated shades have a continuous loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on when you order. We set the drop length to suit the window you have measured. Include space for the wall anchor when you consider the mounting position. Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.

Decide on an inside or outside mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. With less depth, choose an outside mount. This fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above. An outside mount can hide an out-of-square frame and block more light.

Should a balcony door have one wide shade or two?

A balcony door is usually the widest opening in a flat. Consider one wide shade or two side by side, checking where the handle lands against the shade’s path. With two shades, check the mounting space for each and where they will meet. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide, up to 130 inches high. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order.

The first measuring point is when the finished opening and mounting surfaces can be measured. Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, and use the longest height. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything. We make the deduction ourselves. Measure every window in the same pass with the same tape.

Which materials should I consider for a bedroom?

The room-darkening choices are zebra materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30, and Shangri-La material 35. These are the dark materials. Room-darkening does not shut out all light.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed and then rolls the shade up.

Can I see the material before ordering?

You can order free material samples from our website before buying. A colour on a screen is a poor guide to how the material will look in a room. Compare the samples with the finishes you plan to use. Keep the material number with your notes, since we identify each material by the number we cut it by.

Samples and example prices give you something useful to work through before closing. Once an order is confirmed, we make it in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days. Transit takes additional time. When planning around a moving date, keep the making time, transit and installation as separate parts of the schedule.

What should I budget for condo blinds?

These are examples of common window sizes. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. A chain-operated zebra shade at 30 by 72 inches is $237.00; at 36 by 72 inches, $274.20; at 72 by 80 inches, $547.00; and at 72 by 84 inches, $571.80. All four together come to $1,630.00. The prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada.

A roller blind at 30 by 72 inches is $165.75. A motorized zebra shade at 72 by 84 inches is $686.80, with the remote extra, once. There is no minimum order, so one shade is fine. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.
