Seaton Pickering blinds for your closing date

Seaton is a new community under construction in north Pickering, being built in phases. With a closing date ahead, plan to measure after the trim and paint are finished, usually at the visit before closing. We make shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order, with transit on top. Seaton is inside our installation area.

What is Seaton, and how far along is it?

Seaton is a new community in north Pickering, planned for roughly 61,000 residents, with a longer-term target of 70,000. It is under construction and being built out in phases.

Mattamy, Fieldgate, Brookfield, Aspen Ridge and Opus are among the builders working on the community.

When can I measure a new house for blinds?

Measure after the trim and paint are finished. A measurement taken off the builder’s drawing cannot replace measuring the finished opening. Choose your mounting method first. An inside mount sits within the opening and needs at least 2 inches of flat depth for the cassette. If there is less depth, choose an outside mount. It fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.

Measuring width: take the width of the window opening at the top, the middle and the bottom, then order the narrowest of the three. 1 2 3 Top Middle Bottom Measure all three. Order the NARROWEST width
Three width measurements. The narrowest one is the one that matters. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame.

Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the width at the top, middle and bottom, then use the narrowest. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, then use the longest height. Give us the exact opening without subtracting anything. We make the deduction ourselves. Measure every window, even if the openings look alike.

Should I choose one wide shade or two for a patio door?

Think about how you will walk through the door. One wide shade needs to be raised for access. With two shades, you can raise the shade over the part you walk through while leaving the other down. Choose the arrangement before measuring.

We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order. Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.

What works for small kitchen and bathroom windows?

Our narrowest shade is 9 inches wide. A roller blind is a plain, lower-priced choice: it has one panel of fabric with no bands. A roller blind at 24 by 48 inches is $103.80 before tax, with shipping in Canada included. A zebra shade at 24 by 48 inches is $150.20. These are example sizes; measure the opening you are ordering for.

A zebra shade alternates sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. Our chain-operated shades use a continuous-loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on. We set the drop length to suit the window you have measured.

Can I measure at the visit before closing?

The visit before closing is usually the first chance to measure, when the home is finished. Bring a tape and measure every opening in the same pass. Take the width at the top, middle and bottom, and write down the smallest. Take the height to the sill at the left, middle and right, and keep the longest. Label each set of measurements so you know which opening it belongs to.

You can order free material samples from our website before that visit. Once the measurements are ready and the order is confirmed, we make your shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days. Transit is on top. Allow for both making time and delivery when planning around your moving date.

What should I budget for blinds in a new house?

These are common window examples, with no connection to the measurements of a particular Seaton house. For chain-operated zebra shades, a small bedroom window at 24 by 48 inches is $150.20. A tall stairwell window at 36 by 84 inches is $311.40. A front window at 60 by 60 inches is $361.00. A patio door at 72 by 80 inches is $547.00.

All four together come to $1,369.60 before tax, with shipping in Canada included. Every shade is priced from its own measurements. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum order, so one shade is fine. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.

Do you install blinds in Seaton?

Yes. Seaton is roughly 30 km from our workshop in a straight line, inside our installation area of 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more windows, the installation charge is reduced by 20%. Neighbours on one street who book together count as one order for that rate.

The mechanical parts of a shade our own team installs have lifetime cover. That covers the roller, chain, brackets and motor. Fabric is excluded from the warranty.
