New Seaton is a community of homes in Seaton, Pickering, being built by Aspen Ridge Homes. It includes five-bedroom homes, and people are moving in now. The community is roughly 30 km from our Richmond Hill workshop in a straight line.
Which blinds should I put on street-facing windows first?
In a new house with bare windows, start with the rooms where you want privacy straight away. A bedroom or living room facing the street may come before a room you use less often. You can choose shades for those rooms without deciding on every window in the house.
Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the solid bands up for privacy, then offset them for filtered daylight. A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. Can neighbours on a new street book installation together?
Yes. Neighbours on one street can book together, and one visit can cover more than one house. We count homes that book together as one order for installation pricing. Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more windows, installation is 20% off.
You can ask neighbours about booking together while you decide which rooms to cover first. Each shade is still made from the measurements of the window it is for. Choose the material and the chain side for each shade when you order.
Can you make blinds for a tall window over the stairs?
We make shades up to 130 inches high, in widths from 9 to 109 inches. For a tall window over stairs or above a front door, consider how you will reach the chain before ordering. Think about where you will stand when you raise or lower the shade.
Our chain-operated shades have a continuous-loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side it hangs on, and our workshop sets the drop length. If you cannot comfortably reach the chain, a motor is the practical answer. Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.
Should I order blinds for the whole house or in stages?
There is no minimum shade order. One shade is fine, so bedrooms and street-facing rooms can go first. The remake guarantee applies to website orders of three shades or more and covers one blind per customer. It does not apply to trade accounts. An installation visit has a minimum of three windows. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what you ordered.
Decide on an inside or outside mount before measuring. An inside mount needs at least 2 inches of flat depth in the frame. Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Take widths at the top, middle and bottom, and use the narrowest. Measure heights down to the sill at the left, middle and right, and use the longest. Give us the exact opening for an inside mount without subtracting anything. For an outside mount, add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above. Measure all your windows in one pass with the same tape.
What would blinds for a new house cost?
For chain-operated zebra shades, a bedroom window measuring 36 by 48 inches is $199.80. A kitchen window measuring 48 by 48 inches is $249.40. A living room window measuring 48 by 60 inches is $299.00. A wide front window measuring 72 by 60 inches is $423.00. All four together come to $1,171.20. These are common window examples; every shade is priced from the measurements of its own window. A roller blind measuring 36 by 48 inches is $139.20. A motorized zebra shade measuring 72 by 60 inches is $538.00, with the remote extra, once.
These prices are before tax and include shipping in Canada. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order. We make your shades in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Transit is on top. The website currently accepts Interac e-Transfer.
Will you come to New Seaton and install the blinds?
Yes. New Seaton is roughly 30 km from our workshop in a straight line. It is inside our installation area of 75 km from Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. At seven or more windows, installation is 20% off. Homes booking together on one street count as one order for that pricing.
When our own team installs a shade, its mechanical parts have lifetime warranty coverage. Those parts are the roller, chain, brackets and motor. Fabric is excluded. For shades we do not install, the mechanical warranty is 1 year free, currently upgraded free to 3 years.
