How much do zebra blinds cost in Canada? A 2026 price guide

Most custom zebra blinds in Canada cost between about $130 and $500 for a typical window in 2026. A small bathroom window runs low, a wide living room window runs high, and the price per square foot drops the bigger the window gets. This guide shows the real numbers, why they move, and what you are actually paying for.

The figures below come from our own survey of Canadian online sellers in September 2026. We priced the same zebra shade at five standard window sizes on each seller’s own configurator, so these are checkout prices, not list prices. We make zebra shades ourselves in Richmond Hill, Ontario, so the reasons behind the numbers are our day job.

Zebra blind prices by window size

Here is the middle of the market at five common sizes, with the price worked back to a per square foot figure so you can compare across sizes.

Window size Area Typical price Per square foot
24 by 36 in 6 sq ft about $140 about $23
36 by 60 in 15 sq ft about $270 about $18
48 by 72 in 24 sq ft about $360 about $15
72 by 72 in 36 sq ft about $480 about $13
72 by 84 in 42 sq ft about $500 about $12

Budget lines from the large online sellers start around $120 for a 36 by 60 window. Designer and imported brands can be double the middle figure or more. A motorized version usually adds somewhere between $60 and $120 at a typical window.

Why the price per square foot falls on bigger windows

A zebra shade is a roller. Every one has a cassette at the top, a tube, a chain and a set of brackets, and those parts cost about the same whether the blind is small or large. On a small window that fixed cost is spread over very little fabric, so the price per square foot looks high. On a large window the same hardware is spread over far more fabric, so the rate comes down. This is why a flat dollar per square foot number is misleading. A fair price is a base amount for the hardware and the work, plus a rate for the fabric and the size.

What else moves the price

Fabric grade and opacity

Light filtering fabric softens daylight and keeps a sense of the view. Room darkening fabric uses a heavier, opaque band for bedrooms and rooms with a screen. Room darkening costs a little more than light filtering, and designer textures cost more again.

How it is operated

A corded chain is the standard and the least expensive. Motorized shades add a motor, a remote and, on some, a hub, which is where the extra $60 to $120 per window goes. Motors are worth it on hard to reach windows and on large runs you adjust often.

Size and shape

Wider than about 94 inches, most sellers add an oversize charge because the blind ships by freight rather than parcel. Very wide openings are sometimes split into two or three blinds on one headrail.

What you pay a Canadian maker for

Buying from a Canadian workshop instead of importing a finished blind means the shade is cut to your exact opening, checked by a person, and shipped from inside the country, so there is no border, no duty and no month at sea. It also means someone local stands behind the fit. We price factory direct, which is why our made to measure zebra shade sits in the middle of the market rather than at the designer end, without being the cheapest import.

Shipping and installation

Most Canadian online sellers ship normal sizes free and add a one time charge, often around $85, for blinds 94 inches wide and up. Installation is usually separate. In the Greater Toronto Area some makers, ourselves included, will measure and install for a per window fee, which is worth it if you would rather not do it yourself.

Common questions

How much is a zebra blind for a standard window?

For a common 36 by 60 inch window, a custom zebra shade in Canada typically costs about $270, with budget lines near $120 and designer lines above $400.

Are zebra blinds cheaper than other custom shades?

They sit in the middle. They usually cost less than cellular or Roman shades of the same size, and a little more than a plain roller shade, because you are getting two fabrics and the day to night control in one blind.

Do free samples cost anything?

No. Order the swatches you are considering, hold them against your own glass at the time of day that matters to you, and decide from there. It is the surest way to avoid a colour that looked right on a screen and wrong on the wall.

Prices in this guide are a market survey for planning and change with each seller’s sale. For an exact figure, measure your window and price it on the size you need.
