Grey west coast light can leave you wanting daylight and privacy at the same window. A room with a lot of glass gives you more windows to adjust as you move through the day. Zebra shades have sheer and solid bands that you can position for filtered light or privacy. Free material samples let you look at your choices beside your own windows before ordering.
How do sheer bands help on grey days?
When the sky is grey, you may want to keep the shades down without setting them for privacy. Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Offset the bands for filtered light. Line them up for privacy. You can adjust their position without rolling the shade all the way up.
Think about the glass beside your chair, across from your kitchen or facing another home. You may want a different setting at each window. The sheer bands give you a way to use filtered light while the shade stays down. You can line the bands up for privacy when your needs change.
We cut zebra shades in materials including 1, 2, 3 and 5. Order free samples through our website and look at them beside the glass. Check them during the grey daylight you want to live with, rather than choosing from how they look on a screen.
Which shade should I choose for a room with lots of glass?
Start with the adjustment you want to make. Zebra shades use alternating sheer and solid bands. A roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands. We make roller blinds in materials 20, 21, 22 and 31. Picture how you would use each window before choosing the style.
Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed and then rolls the shade up. We make them in materials 33 and 35. They have their own size-based pricing and can be ordered online.
For a damp west coast home, begin with samples at the windows you plan to cover. We identify our materials by the numbers we cut them by. Keep the material number with your notes for each window. If you want room-darkening, the materials carrying that description are 1, 2, 5, 9, 13, 30 and 35, the dark colours.
How do I measure without someone from the workshop?
Choose your mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the opening. It needs at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame for the cassette. If you have less, choose an outside mount. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. It hides an out-of-square frame and blocks more light. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Measure width first, then height, always to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom. Use the narrowest width. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right. Use the longest height. Send your exact opening measurements. We make the factory deduction ourselves, so do not subtract anything.
Measure every window in one pass with the same tape. Similar-looking openings still need their own measurements. Write down the room and window beside each width and height. You choose which side the chain hangs on when ordering. Our workshop sets its drop to suit the window you have measured.
What will my shades cost?
These are common window examples. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. A chain-operated zebra shade at 24 by 36 inches is $125.40. At 30 by 48 inches it is $175.00. At 36 by 48 inches it is $199.80. At 36 by 60 inches it is $237.00. All four together come to $737.20 before tax.
A roller blind at 24 by 36 inches is $86.10 before tax. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. There is no minimum order, so you can start with one shade.
Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. A motorized shade has no chain. Chain-operated shades have a continuous loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device.
What should I check before confirming a west coast order?
Check each window’s measurements, material number and operating choice before confirming. Orders are dispatched within three working days of confirmation. Transit is on top of that time, so dispatch day is separate from the day your shades arrive.
Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That never covers a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered. The remake guarantee is one blind per customer and applies to website orders of three shades or more. It does not apply to trade accounts.
The warranty covers mechanical parts only: the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The 1 year free warranty is currently upgraded free to 3 years. Fabric is excluded. A 5 year cover can be bought at checkout, where you can see its price in dollars for your order.
