How do I choose shades from the other side of Canada?
We make zebra shades, roller blinds and Shangri-La shades in our Richmond Hill, Ontario workshop. You can order free material samples on the website before buying. Each material is identified by the number we cut it by. Keep that number with your measurements so you can enter your choice when you price the window.
Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. We make Shangri-La shades in materials 33 and 35, priced by size on their own line and ordered online.
Look at the samples beside the window where the shade will hang. Think about the light there when you use the room. Materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13, 30 and 35 are room-darkening. How do I measure without someone coming to my window?
Choose your mount before you measure. An inside mount sits within the window opening for a clean, built-in look. It needs at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame for the cassette. With less depth, choose an outside mount. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. That overlap hides an out-of-square frame and blocks more light. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Measure width first, then height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom. Write down the narrowest width. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right. Use the longest height so the shade covers the full drop. Give us the exact opening measurements. Do not subtract anything for an inside mount. We make the factory deduction ourselves.
Windows are rarely square, so take all three measurements in each direction. Avoid rounding to the nearest inch. If you are ordering for several windows, measure them all in one pass with the same tape. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch. You choose which side the chain hangs on. Our workshop sets its drop length to suit the window you have measured.
What will my made-to-measure shades cost?
Every shade is priced from the measurements of its own window. These are common window examples, with chain-operated zebra shade prices before tax and shipping in Canada included. A bathroom window at 24 by 36 inches is $125.40. A bedroom window at 30 by 48 inches is $175.00. A bedroom window at 36 by 48 inches is $199.80. A bedroom window at 36 by 60 inches is $237.00. All four together come to $737.20.
A roller blind at 24 by 36 inches is $86.10 before tax, with shipping in Canada included. There is no minimum order. One shade is fine. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. The website currently accepts Interac e-Transfer.
Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. A motorized shade has no chain. Chain-operated shades use a continuous loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device.
When will the box arrive?
We make your shades to order in Richmond Hill, Ontario. We dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Transit time is on top of that. Allow for the journey when planning your order from another province.
Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton. The courier charge is $85 once per order. Check the width of each window when working out your order.
When the box arrives, check for faults, damage and anything different from what you ordered. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That condition never covers a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from the order. Our installation service is available within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill.
What guarantee applies if I measure the windows myself?
The remake guarantee is one blind per customer. It applies to website orders of three shades or more. Trade accounts are excluded. Check those conditions before confirming your order.
The mechanical warranty covers the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The free warranty is 1 year, upgraded free to 3 years at present. You can buy 5 year mechanical cover at checkout. The checkout shows its price in dollars for your order.
Fabric is excluded from every warranty option. The mechanical parts have lifetime cover on a shade our own team installs.
