A zebra shade runs alternating bands of sheer and solid fabric on a single roller. Line the solid bands up for privacy. Offset them so the sheer bands line up, and daylight comes through softly while you keep the view. Roll it up and the window is clear. We cut and assemble every shade to your measurements in our workshop in Richmond Hill, Ontario.
What a shade costs
Every shade is priced by its size, so you pay for the window you have. This is what common window sizes cost:

There is no minimum: one shade is a valid order, in any mix of sizes and materials. Prices exclude GST/HST, which is added at checkout. Shipping in Canada is free, except for shades 94″ and wider: those are past what Canada Post will carry, so they travel by courier and add $85 once per order. Installation is extra: within 75 km of Richmond Hill we install for $100 a window (minimum three windows), with 20% off at seven windows or more. Installation & pricing
Materials
Every photograph is of our own cloth, and every material is known by the number the workshop cuts it by. A zebra shade has alternating sheer and solid bands; a roller blind is one panel with no bands, on its own price. Order free samples to see them in your own window.
Zebra shades

Shangri-La shades
Soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the whole shade up into its cassette. Priced by size on its own line. More about Shangri-La shades
Measuring
Measure to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. Measure the width at the top, middle and bottom and use the narrowest. Measure the height at the left, middle and right and use the longest. For an inside mount, give us the exact opening and don’t deduct anything; we make the deduction. An inside mount needs at least 2″ of flat depth inside the frame. The full measuring guide
Motorized, if you want it
Any shade can be motorized for $115 plus tax, and you raise and lower it with a remote instead of by hand. A motorized shade has no chain. The remote is $50 plus tax and runs up to 15 shades, so most homes need only one: tick the box when you choose Motorized above.
How ordering works
- Chain control. Each shade is raised and lowered with a continuous-loop chain. You choose which side it hangs on; our workshop sets the drop to suit your window.
- A person can check your numbers first. Tick “Ring me before anything is cut” at checkout and we hold your order and call you before anything is cut.
- Built and shipped within three days of your confirmed order. Transit time depends on where you are in Canada, and shipping is free.
- Orders are final once confirmed, because each shade is cut to one window. If we make it wrong, or it arrives faulty or damaged, we put it right. Returns, remakes & lead time
- Remake guarantee. Measure one shade wrong and we remake it free, once per customer, on a website order of three shades or more. The guarantee
The same window, three ways
One shade, drawn in the three positions it spends its life in. Lined up, the solid bands sit over each other and close the window. Offset, the sheer bands let daylight through and you can still see out. Then rolled part way up, out of the way. These are illustrations, not photographs.
