Can I order shades for a home in Atlantic Canada?
We make zebra shades, roller blinds and Shangri-La shades to order in our Richmond Hill, Ontario workshop. We dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Transit is on top of that, so keep the workshop time separate from the journey to your home.
There is no minimum order. One shade is fine if you want to begin with a single window. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order. Prices are before tax. GST or HST is charged by delivery province.
Our installation service covers homes within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. For an Atlantic Canada order, you will need to measure at home and arrange the mounting locally. Free material samples can be ordered on our website before you buy.
Should an older window have an inside or outside mount?
Choose the mount before measuring. The measurements are different for each. An inside mount sits within the window opening for a clean, built-in look. Check for at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame so the cassette has room to sit.
If the opening has less than 2 inches of flat depth, choose an outside mount. It fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps the frame. That overlap hides an out-of-square frame and blocks more light. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Make the choice for each opening before writing down the order measurements. An older frame may suit an outside mount even when you prefer the look of an inside mount. Keep the mount choice beside that window’s measurements so you do not mix opening measurements with overlap measurements.
How do I measure a frame that is not square?
Measure the width first, then the height, always to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, give us the exact opening measurements. Do not subtract anything. We make the factory deduction ourselves.
Measure the opening’s width at the top, the middle and the bottom. Write down the narrowest of the three. That is the width we build to. It is the only width guaranteed to clear the frame. Then measure from the top of the opening down to the sill at the left, the middle and the right. Use the longest of those height measurements so the shade covers the full drop.
Do not round to the nearest inch or measure only one spot. If you are ordering for several windows, measure them all in one pass with the same tape. Measure every opening, even when the windows look alike. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch.
What will shades for my windows cost?
Every shade is priced from the measurements of its own window. These sizes are examples of common windows. A chain-operated zebra shade at 30 by 48 inches is $175.00. A chain-operated zebra shade at 48 by 48 inches is $249.40. A chain-operated zebra shade at 48 by 60 inches is $299.00. A chain-operated zebra shade at 72 by 60 inches is $423.00. All four together come to $1,146.40, before tax, with shipping in Canada included.
Zebra shades alternate sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands. A chain-operated roller blind at 30 by 48 inches is $121.50, before tax, with shipping in Canada included.
Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. A motorized shade has no chain. With chain operation, you choose which side the continuous-loop chain hangs on. Our workshop sets its drop length. The chain is sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device.
What should I check before confirming an order?
Check each window’s measurements, mount choice, material and chain side. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That never covers a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what was ordered.
The remake guarantee is one blind per customer. It applies to website orders of three shades or more and does not apply to trade accounts. You can order free material samples before choosing the material for each opening.
The warranty covers mechanical parts only: the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The 1 year free warranty is currently upgraded free to 3 years. You can buy 5 year mechanical cover at checkout, where the price is shown in dollars for your order. Fabric is excluded from all of these warranties.
