We make your shades to order in Richmond Hill, Ontario, and dispatch them within three working days of a confirmed order. Transit time comes on top of those three working days. In the workshop, we cut your chosen material and assemble the shade to your measurements, with chain operation or a motor. You can order one shade or shades for several windows.
When will my custom shades be dispatched?
We dispatch made-to-measure zebra shades, roller blinds and Shangri-La shades within three working days of a confirmed order. The lead time starts with confirmation. Have your measurements, material and operating choice settled before you confirm.
Transit takes additional time after dispatch. When you plan your order, allow for both the workshop lead time and the journey to your delivery address. The three working days cover making and dispatching your shades.
Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not apply to a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what you ordered. Free material samples are available on the website before buying, so you can choose your material before we cut it.
What happens during the three working days?
We make each shade to the measurements and choices in your confirmed order. Our assembly shop is at 604 Edward Avenue Unit 15, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 9Y7. We identify materials by the numbers we cut them by.
The assembly depends on the shade you choose. Zebra shades have alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands. Shangri-La shades have soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. Their chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up.
For chain operation, you choose which side the chain hangs on. We set its drop length to suit the window you measured. The continuous-loop chain is sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. A motorized shade has no chain. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades.
What measurements do I need before ordering?
Decide on an inside or outside mount before measuring. An inside mount sits within the window opening. Check for at least 2 inches of flat depth inside the frame for the cassette. If you have less, choose an outside mount. An outside mount fixes to the wall above the opening and overlaps it. Add at least 2 inches each side and 2 to 3 inches above.
Measure the width first, then the height, to the nearest 1/8 of an inch. For an inside mount, measure the opening at the top, middle and bottom, then use the narrowest width. Measure from the top of the opening to the sill at the left, middle and right, then use the longest height. Give us your exact opening measurements. Do not subtract anything for an inside mount. We make the deduction ourselves.
Measure every window, even when the openings look alike. If you are ordering for several windows, measure them all in one pass with the same tape. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch.
How much does a made-to-measure shade cost?
For a chain-operated zebra shade, a bedroom-window example at 36 by 48 inches is $199.80. A kitchen-window example at 48 by 48 inches is $249.40. A living-room-window example at 48 by 60 inches is $299.00. A wide-front-window example at 72 by 60 inches is $423.00.
These are common window examples. Every shade is priced from the measurements of the window it is for. For comparison, a chain-operated roller blind at 36 by 48 inches is $139.20. These prices include shipping in Canada and are before tax. GST or HST is charged according to the delivery province.
There is no minimum order, so one shade is fine. You can price your window with your chosen material and operation on the website. Payment on the website is by Interac e-Transfer.
What should I allow for delivery and installation?
Allow for transit after the three working days to dispatch. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton. The courier charge is $85 once per order.
We install within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation costs $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows.
The mechanical parts of a shade our own team installs have lifetime warranty cover. That cover applies to the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The fabric is not covered.
