Roller blind or zebra shade: what the higher price buys

For the same small window, a roller blind costs less than a zebra shade. The roller gives you one panel of fabric. The zebra gives you alternating sheer and solid bands that you can line up for privacy or offset for filtered light. We price each shade from your window measurements, so compare both styles at the same width and height before choosing.

How much is a roller blind compared with a zebra shade?

For a small bedroom window measuring 24 by 48 inches, a chain-operated roller blind is $103.80 before tax. For that same 24 by 48 inches, a chain-operated zebra shade is $150.20 before tax. Shipping in Canada is included in these prices. GST or HST is charged according to the delivery province.

That gives you a direct comparison for one window. The size stays the same, and both shades use a chain. The higher zebra price buys the banded fabric arrangement and the ability to change how those bands line up. The roller blind has one panel of fabric with no bands.

These are example measurements for a common window. Your shade is priced from the measurements of the window it will cover. We make each one to measure in our Richmond Hill workshop.

What do I get for the higher zebra shade price?

At 24 by 48 inches, the zebra shade is $150.20 before tax. Its fabric alternates sheer and solid bands on one roller. You line the bands up for privacy. You offset them for filtered light. That adjustment is the feature to consider when you compare it with the roller blind for the same window.

A roller blind is one panel of fabric with no bands. We cut roller blinds in materials 20, 21, 22 and 31. Our materials are identified by the numbers we cut them by. Use those numbers when you choose your fabric or ask us about it.

For zebra shades, materials 1, 2, 5, 9, 13 and 30 in the dark colours are room-darkening. You can order free material samples on the website before buying. Compare the samples before deciding which fabric you want us to cut.

What do zebra shades cost for other window sizes?

A chain-operated zebra shade for a tall window beside the door, measuring 30 by 72 inches, is $237.00. A chain-operated zebra shade for a front window, measuring 60 by 60 inches, is $361.00. A chain-operated zebra shade for a patio door, measuring 72 by 80 inches, is $547.00. Each price is before tax, with shipping in Canada included.

Together with the chain-operated zebra shade at 24 by 48 inches for $150.20, those shades come to $1,295.20 before tax. These sizes are examples of common windows. They are not measurements from a particular home. Measure each window you are ordering for rather than using a neighbouring window’s dimensions.

We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton. The courier charge is $85 once per order.

How much more does motor operation cost?

Any shade can be motorized for $115.00 more. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. The remote is an extra charge, once. You can use that information when comparing chain operation with motor operation across the windows you want to order.

For the patio door example at 72 by 80 inches, the chain-operated zebra shade is $547.00 before tax. At 72 by 80 inches, the motorized zebra shade is $662.00 before tax. The remote is extra. A motorized shade has no chain at all.

Our chain-operated shades have a continuous loop chain, sold shrouded and anchored to the wall with a tension device. You choose which side the chain hangs on. We set the drop length in the workshop.

What should I allow for installation and ordering?

We install within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three. There is no minimum order for the shades themselves. You can order one shade if that is all you need.

We make your order in Richmond Hill and dispatch it within three working days of confirmation. Transit time is on top. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That final-sale condition does not cover a shade that arrives faulty, damaged or different from what you ordered. The remake guarantee is one blind per customer for website orders of three shades or more. It does not apply to trade accounts.

The mechanical-parts warranty covers the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The 1 year free cover is currently upgraded free to 3 years. Mechanical parts have lifetime cover when our own team installs the shade. Fabric is excluded from these warranties. The website currently accepts Interac e-Transfer.
