Quoting blinds when you replace the windows

Measure the new opening after the frame goes in. Check the opening’s depth with us before you settle on a shade and its position. Then price each window on our website while you are with the customer. Keep the material, chain side, motor choice and installation clear in your quote. Trade accounts use their signed-in pricing and collect from our Richmond Hill workshop.

When should I measure blinds for replacement windows?

Take the measurements after the new frame goes in. The opening you are working with then is the opening the shade needs to fit. Keep the old blind’s measurements separate from the measurements you use to order.

Write down the width and height for each finished opening. Give each window a room reference in your job notes so you can carry the measurements through to the quote and order. We make shades from 9 to 109 inches wide and up to 130 inches high, to the eighth of an inch.

For a window company, renovator or builder, this puts the shade measurement after the frame work. For a designer or specification writer, it means keeping the final shade dimensions open until that measurement is available. Custom shades are final sale once the order is confirmed. That does not remove your recourse if a shade arrives faulty, damaged or different from what you ordered.

How much depth does the shade need?

Measure the depth of the finished opening and ask us to confirm the space needed for the shade you want. Keep that question separate from width and height. Have the shade type ready when you ask, so the depth check relates to the item you intend to specify.

Zebra shades have alternating sheer and solid bands on one roller. Line the bands up for privacy or offset them for filtered light. A roller blind has one panel of fabric without bands. Shangri-La shades use soft fabric vanes held between two sheer layers. The chain tilts the vanes open or closed, then rolls the shade up. We make Shangri-La shades in materials 33 and 35, with their own size pricing online.

Record the operating choice alongside the depth check. Our chain-operated shades have a shrouded continuous loop chain anchored to the wall with a tension device. Your customer chooses the chain side. We set the drop length at the workshop. A motorized shade has no chain.

How do I price the blinds in front of the customer?

Enter each window’s measurements on our website with the shade type and material your customer has chosen. These chain-operated zebra shade examples are before tax, with shipping in Canada included: 30 by 48 inches is $175.00 for a bedroom window; 48 by 48 inches is $249.40 for a kitchen window; 48 by 60 inches is $299.00 for a living room window; and 72 by 60 inches is $423.00 for a wide front window. All four together come to $1,146.40. These are common-window examples. Price every shade from the measurements of the window it is for.

For a fabric-panel comparison, a roller blind at 30 by 48 inches is $121.50. The motorized zebra shade at 72 by 60 inches is $538.00. Motorization adds $115.00 to any shade. One remote costs $50.00 and runs up to 15 shades. Keep the remote as a separate item in the quote, charged once.

Prices are before tax. GST or HST is charged by delivery province. Widths of 94 inches and over travel by courier in their own carton, with an $85 charge once per order. Website payment is by Interac e-Transfer. We make website orders in Richmond Hill and dispatch within three working days of a confirmed order. Allow for transit after dispatch.

How does a trade account change the quote?

Designers, decorators, builders, property managers and dealers can apply for a trade account on our website. A person approves each application. Once you are signed in, you can see the trade price by the square foot and use it to prepare your customer’s quote.

Trade orders are collected from our workshop. They are ready 3 to 5 business days after the order is confirmed. We do not ship trade orders. A trade account pays by Interac e-Transfer or in cash when it collects.

There is no minimum order, so you can order one shade for a replacement-window job. The website remake guarantee applies to orders of three shades or more and allows one blind per customer. Trade accounts do not have that remake guarantee. Keep the confirmed measurements and selections with your order.

Can I include installation in the window quote?

We install within 75 km of Elgin Mills and Yonge in Richmond Hill. Installation is $100 per window, with a minimum of three windows. Keep installation separate from the shade prices when you prepare the quote.

The warranty covers mechanical parts: the roller, chain, brackets and motor. The 1 year free cover is currently upgraded free to 3 years. When our own team installs, the mechanical parts have lifetime cover. Fabric is excluded from all warranty cover. You can buy 5 year mechanical cover at checkout, where the dollar price for that order is shown.

Our workshop is at 604 Edward Avenue Unit 15, Richmond Hill, ON L4C 9Y7. It is an assembly shop. Arrange your trade collection around the confirmed order’s readiness.
